Lyle Brulhart

Software engineer. Building things since 1992.

I'm a software engineer based in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. I've worked independently for most of the last two decades. Most of what I build stays inside the companies I build it for — production systems that aren't mine to link to from a public site. Day-to-day that means Python and Tornado on the backend, hand-written PostgreSQL without an ORM, and Vue, jQuery, or htmx on the front. Infrastructure runs on AWS, GCP, Docker, and Cloudflare.

I care about software that holds up over time: code that performs well under real load, security implemented correctly rather than performatively, and privacy treated as architecture rather than policy. I prefer libraries to frameworks and small composable tools to platforms.

Before independent work, I shipped games at Vancouver studios in the 1990s. More recently, several years on large-scale e-commerce platforms with substantial PCI DSS exposure. I started writing software in 1992 and I still write code daily.
